Tryptophan may work for PMDD, smoking cessation, and depression, although much more research is necessary to confirm these early findings. There is not enough evidence to suggest that tryptophan is effective for other uses. Also, there are significant concerns about the safety of tryptophan, and the potential risks often outweigh any possible benefits.
