Silenor Uses

Can Children Use Silenor?

Silenor is not approved for use in "pediatric patients" (usually defined as individuals under the age of 18 years old). It is unknown if Silenor is safe or effective for children.

Off-Label Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Silenor for something other than treating insomnia (this would be known as an "off-label" use). Although doxepin (the active ingredient in Silenor) is approved for treating anxiety and depression, it is highly unlikely that Silenor would be helpful for such uses, as Silenor is used at much lower dosages (3 mg or 6 mg daily) compared to the doxepin dosage needed for treating anxiety or depression (typically 75 mg to 300 mg per day).

Therefore, there are no universally accepted off-label uses for Silenor at this time.
