Silenor Drug Interactions
Several products can cause drug interactions with Silenor, including alcohol, certain antidepressants, and medications that cause drowsiness. Combining these medications with Silenor can increase your risk of serious problems, such as decreased breathing, a coma, and other potentially dangerous side effects. To ensure a safe treatment, tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including nonprescription medicines.
Silenor® (doxepin tablets) can potentially interact with a number of other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with Silenor include but are not limited to:
- Alcohol
- Arrhythmia medications, including:
- Amiodarone (Cordarone®)
- Disopyramide (Norpace®)
- Dofetilide (Tikosyn®)
- Flecainide (Tambocor®)
- Ibutilide (Corvert®)
- Propafenone (Rythmol®)
- Quinidine
- Sotalol (Betapace®)
- Cimetidine (Tagamet®)
- Medications that cause drowsiness, such as narcotics, antihistamines, many anti-anxiety drugs, antidepressants, or sleep aids
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), including:
- Isocarboxazid (Marplan®)
- Phenelzine (Nardil®)
- Rasagiline (Azilect®)
- Selegiline (Eldepryl®, Emsam®, Zelapar®)
- Tranylcypromine (Parnate®)
- SSRI antidepressants, including:
- Citalopram (Celexa®)
- Escitalopram (Lexapro®)
- Fluoxetine (Prozac®, Sarafem®, Selfemra™)
- Fluvoxamine (Luvox®)
- Paroxetine (Paxil®, Paxil CR®)
- Sertraline (Zoloft®)
- Tolazamide (Tolinase®)
- Other tricyclic antidepressants, including:
- Amitriptyline (Elavil®)
- Amoxapine (Asendin®)
- Clomipramine (Anafranil®)
- Desipramine (Norpramin®)
- Other forms of doxepin (Sinequan®)
- Imipramine (Tofranil®, Tofranil PM®)
- Maprotiline (Ludiomil®)
- Nortriptyline (Pamelor®)
- Protriptyline (Vivactil®)
- Trimipramine (Surmontil®).
