Passion Flower Drug Interactions

When you combine alcohol or antidepressants with passion flower, drug interactions could potentially occur. Negative interactions with the supplement can increase your risk for developing side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Other medications that may cause passion flower interactions include barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and antipsychotic medicines.

 

An Introduction to Passion Flower Drug Interactions

Even though passion flower is a natural product, it can potentially interact with several medicines, particularly medications with sedative effects. Some of these medicines that may lead to passion flower interactions include:
 

 

 

  • Barbiturate medicines, including, but not limited to:

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Benzodiazepines, including:

 

 

  • Opiates and other narcotics, such as morphine (MSIR®), oxycodone (OxyContin®), or hydrocodone (Lortab®, Vicodin®)
  • Sleep medications.
