There is a lot of information to be aware of before taking the sleeping pill Lunesta
® (
eszopiclone). The medication belongs to a class of drugs called sedatives/hypnotics and is classified as a controlled substance in the United States, meaning it has significant abuse potential.
Lunesta has been shown to help people fall asleep and to help them stay asleep longer. However, there are also some less desirable effects of this medication. Studies have also shown that Lunesta can cause mild rebound
insomnia (worsening of insomnia after stopping the medicine).
Lunesta comes in tablet form and is taken immediately before bedtime. It is recommended that you take your dose with a glass of water, not immediately after a meal and not with food. Since the drug works very quickly, make sure that you are ready for sleep before taking it. Do not take it before driving or performing any tasks that require concentration.
