Lunesta® (
eszopiclone) is a prescription medicine approved for the treatment of
insomnia. There are several indications for Lunesta; the medication has been shown to both help people fall asleep and help them stay asleep longer. Like many other sleep medications, Lunesta is a
controlled substance and may be abused, especially in people with a history of drug or alcohol abuse.
Lunesta has not been tested in people under the age of 18. Therefore, this sleep aid is not recommended for children. Talk to your child's healthcare provider about other ways to deal with childhood insomnia.
Healthcare provider may sometimes recommend prescription drugs for something other than the approved uses. This is called an "
off-label" use. At this time, however, there are no universally recognized off-label uses for Lunesta.
