Lunesta as a Sleep Aid

Lunesta® (eszopiclone) is a sleep medicine approved to treat insomnia. As a sleep aid, Lunesta has been shown to help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer than people who did not take Lunesta.

Clinical studies have also shown that Lunesta can cause mild rebound insomnia (worsening of insomnia after stopping a medication). Rebound insomnia symptoms usually occurred for only one night after the drug was stopped, after which people returned to their normal sleeping patterns.

Lunesta is only approved for adults (age 18 and older), and is typically taken once a day right before bedtime. Although most people tolerate Lunesta well, it is not suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with this sleep aid, Lunesta's warnings and precautions should be fully reviewed with your healthcare provider.

For example, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and non-prescription medicines).
