California Poppy Drug Interactions

There are several medications that may interact negatively with California poppy. Drug interactions may especially occur if California poppy is taken with any medications that have sedative effects, such as antidepressants, alcohol, and antipsychotic medications. Some of these drug interactions with California poppy can increase the risk of developing serious side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, and difficulty breathing.

 

An Introduction to California Poppy Drug Interactions

Even though California poppy is a natural product, it can potentially interact with several medicines, particularly medications with sedative effects. Some of these medicines that may lead to California poppy interactions include:
 

 

 

  • Barbiturate medicines, including, but not limited to:

 

    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Benzodiazepines, including:

 

 

  • Narcotic pain relievers, such as morphine (MSIR®), oxycodone (OxyContin®), or hydrocodone (Lortab®, Vicodin®, etc.)
  • Sleep medications.
