Ambien vs. Lunesta

Both Ambien® (zolpidem tartrate) and Lunesta® (eszopiclone) are prescription medications approved for the treatment of insomnia in adults. They belong to a class of drugs known as sedatives/hypnotics. These medications are controlled substances that have the potential to be abused. Studies have shown that Lunesta and Ambien are effective in helping people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

There are also some differences between Lunesta versus Ambien. Although Ambien is currently available in both brand-name and generic form, no generic Lunesta products are available at this time. Also, Ambien tablets are available in two strengths, while Lunesta tablets come in three different strengths.
