Ambien Effects

Ambien® (zolpidem tartrate) is a prescription medication approved to treat short-term insomnia in adults. The effects of Ambien on the body can include helping people:
 
  • Fall asleep faster
  • Sleep longer
  • Have a higher quality of sleep
  • Have fewer awakenings.
     
As a type of sedative/hypnotic, Ambien can treat a number of sleep difficulties, such as difficulty falling asleep, waking up often during the night, and waking up too early in the morning.
 
Although most people tolerate Ambien well, this sleep medication can cause side effects. Ambien has been shown to cause problems such as daytime drowsiness, diarrhea, and dizziness, to name a few. Because this sleep medication is not suitable for everyone, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you have or any other medications you are taking before starting treatment with Ambien.
