Ambien® (
zolpidem tartrate) is a medication approved for the treatment of
insomnia in adults. It is available by prescription only and comes in tablet form. Two strengths of
Ambien tablets are available: 10 mg and 5 mg.
Your healthcare provider will recommend an appropriate dosage for your situation based on your age, other existing medical conditions you have, and any other medications you are currently taking.
Most people start with Ambien 10 mg tablets (one tablet, taken immediately before bedtime). However, certain people may require amount when beginning treatment. The recommended Ambien dose for elderly people, those with liver disease, and people who are taking other medications that affect the brain is 5 mg daily.
