Ambien CR Drug Interactions

Certain Ambien CR drug interactions may cause side effects or increase the amount of medicine in your blood. Drugs that may potentially cause an interaction with Ambien CR include chlorpromazine, alcohol, flumazenil, and sertraline. Because there are many other potential drug interactions with Ambien CR, be sure to let your healthcare provider know if you are taking other medications with the sleep medicine.

Ambien CR Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Ambien CR™ (zolpidem tartrate extended-release tablets) has a number of other medicines that it can potentially interact with. Some possible Ambien CR drug interactions can include:

Imipramine (Tofranil)
When imipramine and Ambien CR are given at the same time, patients may have an additional decrease in awareness. To avoid this possible Ambien CR drug interaction, it is recommended that a person discuss alternatives with his or her healthcare provider prior to taking Ambien CR.

Chlorpromazine (Thor-Prom, Thorazine)
When chlorpromazine and Ambien CR are given at the same time, additional decreases can occur in awareness, mental functioning, and coordination. To avoid this possible Ambien CR drug interaction, it is recommended that a person discuss alternatives with his or her healthcare provider prior to taking Ambien CR.

Alcohol
When alcohol and Ambien CR are taken at the same time, Ambien CR increases the effects of the alcohol. It is, therefore, recommended that you do not drink alcohol when taking Ambien CR.
